Whether you are looking for bedroom, dining, living room, boardroom or office furniture, we hope we will be able to help. We can also undertake bespoke commissions for fitted studies and libraries.

You may provide pictures of sketches of the furniture you would like to commission, or choose from our own designs of contemporary and traditional furniture.

To ensure that the finished furniture is exactly what you want we will take time to discuss your requirements as we like to gain an understanding of the context of your home or business and the situation for the piece being commissioned. We also give you the opportunity to choose not just the size and style of your furniture but the finished colour and grain of the oak you wish us to use.

Our furniture can be fumed to give a golden or dark oak colour or lime finish or left un-fumed to give a very light natural oak finish.

Timber Drying ProcessTo complete the piece, you may choose modern brushed or stainless steel fittings or wrought iron or wooden handles.

We upholster our chairs in leather but if you would prefer to supply your own fabric we are happy to use this.

Only the finest raw materials are used in our workshops. English Oak, from sustainable woodlands, is specially selected for its quality. The timber is stacked to allow it to dry naturally, a process taking approximately 1 year per inch thickness. Once dry the wood is carefully selected and sawn to size.

Regardless of whether you choose a traditional or contemporary design each piece of furniture is handmade by one craftsman using mortise and tennon joints - the way furniture used to be made.

"Adzing" is an age old technique requiring great skill to achieve a perfect rippled effect to the surface of table tops.

When complete the furniture is "fumed" with ammonia to bring out the colour of the wood and define the natural grain.

The furniture tops are sealed using polyurethane lacquer to give a protective finish that will provide some resistance to heat and water marking. (Please see our furniture care page for more information)

A final wax polishing enhances the natural beauty of the wood giving a rich lustrous finish and patina that improves with age.

Visitors are very welcome to come to Beaver Lodge and watch our craftsmen and woodcarver at work.
